UK Households Asked to Count How Much Plastic They Bin Each Week
In 2018, the UK produced 5.2 million tonnes of plastic waste, according to Greenpeace.
Greenpeace and Everyday Plastic are asking householders to record how much plastic they are disposing of each week, the industry watchdogs have explained.
This survey will give the non-profit organisations and idea of how much plastic waste homes throw away each week, hoping to put pressure on the government and retailers to fix the plastics issue as well as giving the survey respondents a footprint of how much of their plastic waste is recycled, landfilled, incinerated or exported.
The organisers are anticipating that the Big Plastic Count pushes the government to bring in strict legislation surrounding plastic waste. In particular, setting a target to reduce the UK's single-use plastics by 50% before 2025.
